March 2006, Ph. D in Agriculture, Iwate UniversityMessage Over 8,000 species are utilized as floricultural plants worldwide. Flowers are not edible, but they are necessary to provide relaxation for us. Our research aim is to reveal the molecular mechanisms of important floral traits, including flower color, floral morphogenesis, flowering time and so on, using molecular engineering. In addition, we attempt to produce transgenic plants with novel traits. We believe that these molecular analyses solve some problems involved in the cultivation and breeding of floricultural plants.
